These Studio Ghibli Coasters Are Too Cute For Words

first_img Do you use coasters? I just like to set my drink down wherever there’s a flat space because I’m a barbarian, but if I had cute enough coasters, I could probably be convinced to use them. I’m thinking about it with this set of fuzzy new coasters based on popular Studio Ghibli characters. Benelic, the operator of the “Donguri Kyowakoku” coasters, has brought us a new series of coasters that might just melt your heart if you’re not careful. The line features Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service, Calcifer from Howl’s Moving Castle, forest sprites from My Neighbor Totoro, the Soot Sprite from Spirited Away, all done in 100% wool. They’ve all even been made by hand in Nepal, hand-stitched and available for about 1,300 yen ($11.50) apiece. They’re absolutely gorgeous, and they’re worth even more than that thanks to the fact that workers carefully craft these with their hands instead of relying on machines to do all the work. That’s impressive! Can you imagine putting them together like that, all day? They out to charge at least double the price for that kind of intensive work, especially since each coaster needs to be the same.If you want to purchase a set of these coasters, you’ll have to actually take your Ghibli-loving self down to Donguri Kyowakoku, as it doesn’t seem there’s a way to purchase them online just yet. But keep your eyes peeled as you never know when these goodies are going to make their way to an online location near you. And if you’re feeling crafty, you might consider making copycat versions to tide you over until you’ve got the real thing too.
