Arsenal star Mesut Ozil edging closer to Fenerbahce move with January loan switch ‘very close’

first_imgAdvertisement Ozil cuts a forlorn figure at the Emirates (Picture: Getty Images)His unfortunate run in north London could be coming to an end, with Turkish publication Fotomac reporting that a January loan move to Fenerbahce is ‘very close’ for Ozil.AdvertisementAdvertisementThis would see the playmaker move to the Istanbul club until the end of the season at least, although his Arsenal future would still be up in the air as his contract at the Emirates runs until the summer of 2021.Fenerbahce have been interested in signing Ozil before, but his deal at the Gunners has been prohibitive for any move as he earns an enormous £350,000-a-week.There were talks of him making the switch over the summer, but the Turkish side admitted that they could simply not afford to sign him.‘Mesut Ozil, with his career and standing, successfully represents our country abroad,’ read a club statement in July.‘He is an important value known with the identity of Fenerbahce.‘However, Fenerbahce does not have a proposal for Mesut Ozil. Under the current economic conditions, such a step is not possible for both parties.More: FootballRio Ferdinand urges Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to drop Manchester United starChelsea defender Fikayo Tomori reveals why he made U-turn over transfer deadline day moveMikel Arteta rates Thomas Partey’s chances of making his Arsenal debut vs Man City‘Our president, Ali Koc, made statements on the subject in the WinWin program held on June 20 and emphasised that this could not be realised in the short term.’Arsenal are set to appoint Mikel Arteta as their new manager in the extremely near future and Ozil’s future will be influenced by the Spaniard. If Arteta is keen to keep him around then any deal could be taken off the table, although the board do want to shed the vast wages of the under-performing star.MORE: Arsene Wenger questions Arsenal board as he compares his former club to LiverpoolMORE: Arsenal players could be sold if they get on the wrong side of Mikel Arteta, says Alan Stubbs Mesut Ozil could be leaving Arsenal in a matter of weeks (Picture: Getty Images)Mesut Ozil is ‘very close’ to leaving Arsenal on loan for Fenerbahce in January, according to reports in Turkey. The 31-year-old’s difficulties at the Emirates have not eased since the departure of Unai Emery from the dugout, with his form and demeanor still far from where Gunners fans would want them to be.The Germany international last scored for Arsenal in April and has found the back of the net just twice in all of 2019 as he has often struggled to get into the first team.Interim boss Freddie Ljungberg has shown some faith in Ozil, but his troubles were clear when he was substituted against Manchester City in his last outing and kicked his gloves along the touchline.ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement Comment Metro Sport ReporterFriday 20 Dec 2019 7:52 amShare this article via facebookShare this article via twitterShare this article via messengerShare this with Share this article via emailShare this article via flipboardCopy link3.1kShares Arsenal star Mesut Ozil edging closer to Fenerbahce move with January loan switch ‘very close’last_img read more

New Delhi: Hosts Dabang Delhi on Saturday notched up a thrilling 33-31 win over defending champions Bengaluru Bulls in the first match of the Delhi leg of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 7 at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex here.Naveen Kumar was the star for the Delhi side who trailed for most parts of the match but inflicted a crucial All-Out in the final minutes on the Bulls to walk away with all the points.Bengaluru Bulls started the match on the front foot, racing to a 5-0 lead, with Pawan Sehrawat flying high. The Bulls piled on the pressure, backed by their defence, to inflict the first All-Out of the match on Dabang Delhi in the 11th minute and open a gap of six points. The defending champions continued to dominate with their defence, manned by Mahender Singh and Saurabh Nandal, thwarting all the raiders who came in their territory. The first half ended 19-11 in favour of the Bengaluru Bulls. The league’s top raider, Pawan Sehrawat started the second half with the same intensity, rushing to his Super 10 (10 raid points) within six minutes of resumption as the Bulls maintained their pressure on Delhi. The home team brought in Meraj Sheykh to add an extra dimension to their raids and the Iranian picked up bonus points to keep Debang Delhi in the game as the match edged closer to the final whistle.Three points by Naveen Kumar in two successive raids with five minutes remaining in the match helped him reach a Super 10 and make it a one-point game. The aggressive strategy saw Delhi force an All-Out on Bulls with 3 minutes remaining to take the lead. But Pawan Sehwarat’s two-point raid tied the match once again with just a minute remaining.Delhi then pulled off an important tackle in the final minute to win the first match of their home leg.Bengaluru will only have themselves to blame for allowing Delhi to clinch so many bonus points and finishing off the game when they were on top.The result saw Delhi move to second spot in the table.last_img read more
